Week 98  This week we get the second set of undercarriage parts

The bits we received

And what we did with them

Again, the parts are put aside for use later.  This week the instructions show fitting the ailerons to the upper wing, and doing some work with the struts. I'm going to leave the struts until I actually fit the upper wing.  For the moment I shall just fit the ailerons.

I have not left the 2mm gap.  I think that it looks better if you push the aileron right up against the wing.  However, each to their own.  I also re-profiled the wing tip to give a more even gap between the wing tip and the end of the aileron.

Firstly, place the U shaped brackets on the aileron.  They should stay in place if you keep the aileron hinge down.  Now apply glue to the inside of the U brackets and the recesses in the trailing edge of the wing.  Fit the two parts together and hold the aileron in place with masking tape.  I used some triangular scraps of balsa to push the U brackets against the aileron spar (that is the 3mm brass rod).  Now just leave everything to dry.

Note, if you want a gap between the aileron and wing you can use the same method, but just put a piece of packing between the aileron and wing where you hold it with tape.

If you push the aileron hard up against the wing as I have done it will not move freely, and may not move when you move the control column.

Hot tip of the week

Be very sparing with the glue or you will glue the aileron in place and it won't move.
