Week 52  This week we get the first frames that form the cockpit sides

The bits we received

And what we did with them

Firstly, glue the top spars in place.  This is a nice easy job.  I put a slight curve in the rear end of the spars so that they sat in the rear most frame easily.  Leave this to dry before continuing.

The groove in the bottom of the frames needs filing out.  This is a bit of a pain, but essential.  Mark the exact point of the bend, and measure the distance from the previous frame to make sure that they are both the same, otherwise your fire wall will not be straight when you get to the front of the fuselage.  Then just file away until it fits.  Don't be tempted move them forward as the spars might not be long enough if you do.

Mark the positions, measure again to make sure everything is still square, then apply glue and pegs.

The shows the model with the fire wall put in place, but not glued of course.  You could also place the model on it's jig to make sure everything is still square.

Hot tip of the week

Clothes pegs are really useful clamps, and cheap enough to throw away if the get covered in glue or paint.  (For most of us, they're free if your wife/mother isn't watching when you nick them from the peg bag !!)

How many hours does it take to build the model ??
