Week 11  This week we get another engine cylinder

The bits we received

And what we did with them

Joining the two cylinder halves is the first job.  They didn't match up particularly well, but the fit can be made better if you file off the locating lugs from one half of the cylinder as per the photo below.  There was a little flash on the edges of the cylinders, which got cleaned up with a small needle file.

Cylinder head next - this didn't fit very well at all.  The problem was one of the lugs inside the cylinder had a lot of muck round it, which was stopping the cylinder head from sitting on the cylinder properly.  It would have been very difficult to remove this lug, so I chose to file some of the cylinder head locating ring off instead.  There is plenty of the ring left, so the head still locates properly.

The top of the cylinder also got a quick file to flatten off any unevenness. You can just see the file marks in the photo.

The head was glued in place, followed by the rocker and rocker arm, in that order.  Give all the glued surfaces a gentle file to roughen the surface.  I used thick super glue throughout.

Here are a couple more photos of the head from different angles.

Painting will be left until all the cylinders have been completed.

Hot tip of the week

If things don't fit, have a look to see where they don't fit, and how to make them fit.  There's often an easy solution.

How many hours does it take to build the model ??
